Windows XP and Athlon64 X2

Hello everyone,

I'm about to upgrade my computer, among other things the CPU which will be upgraded to an Athlon62 X2. I remember reading somewhere that Win XP home edition isn't compatible with 64bit CPUs, and that the Pro edition therefore would be needed in order to run an Athlon 64 X2. Is this correct?

Thanks

XP Home will work on that processor.

Ideally, Win XP-64 will be out at the end of the year and it would theoretically run better as a native 64-bit app on a 64bit chip instead of running a 32-bit OS (XP Home, Pro) in compatiblity mode. We'll see.

all xp versions will work on amd 64 bit but what microsoft recommend is to buy the Windows XP Professional x64 Edition. This is meant to be quicker and will sort any compatability issues.
