Windows XP and Dual Core Processors

I know Windows XP 32-bit Service Pack 2 is able to run with a dual core processor, but from my studies I have read that Windows XP 32-bit cannot fully utilize many of the benefits that dual core gives since the operating system is not threaded.

What other benefits would a dual core processor give other than multitasking to Windows XP 32-bit?
 
It's not the operating system that is not capable, most programs besides for cpu-intensive programs such as photoshop, or video editing programs are written to utilize the dual-core threading technology. Even on Vista Ultimate, I have only come by a few programs that use this technology.
 
Sounds to me unless I use programs that are threaded or unless I use multiple programs that require a lot of resources that I am better off staying with my AMD Athlon 4000+ single core processor.

I run some older 2000-2002 games like Soldier of Fortune, SOF II, Return to CastleWolfenstein with an AMD AM2 6000+ X2 for the cpu without problems. Those are run on both XP and Vista alike. I no longer see the lags in desktop apps and video capturing that was seen on the last 939 build with the 3500+ single core mpdel there.
 
The actual fastest dual core model for the 939 boards was the FX-60 taken out of production. That was the only dual core model in the FX performance line. The 4800+ X2 was the next down for stock speed.

You mean for the 939 socket right? Because there was an FX-62, as well as the current FX-7# series.

I meant there was an FX-62, but it was an AM2 socket. I wasn't sure if you mean the FX-60 was the highest 939 CPU from AMD, or the highest FX they ever made.
 
939 was the one being referred to before. I was looking at getting an FX-60 for the last build here right when all FX-60s were suddenly pulled from the shelves. That was right about the time AMD was buying ATI out. It figures!

lol no he's talking about the hideous mustard gold color and the ****ed up minimize-maximize-close buttons on your windows, and the huge size of the text and drop down menus. that looks horrible how do you use your computer? plus it's internet explorer... tsk tsk tsk
 
Unfortunately the Faststone screen capture program grabs everything from the active window open. But that was one that also works well on Vista as well as XP. If I snap the desktop you would see a lot more added to it.
