Looking for [Title], anyone know where i can download it? I've searched high and low and found only 1 very slow and not so good source.

I got my first copy, but it seems like it's all corrupt :( I can't un-rar any of the files. All I can do is read the readme file.

To my knowledge this is a completely freeware/open source OS, so please don't lock this thread.

What is that program?

It's an operating system. Basically a stripped down version of Windows XP, and it runs REALLY fast. All the normal XP BS that they put in the original OS has been removed, and it only has the essentials. It should run fine with most desktops that you can download drivers for, but good luck on a laptop.

I REALLY want to get a working copy and install on this computer to try it out, I've heard good things about it. And it still works with all M$'s hot fixes/updates from their site, so ther shouldn't be any MORE security holes than normal XP.

i can list a couple ... but most of them will be torrents.. i dont know if you'll want torrents or direct sources.. so if torrents fine.. let me know..

OH YEA.. n when did they add a second line to the ranks.. lol

I'm not 4W4K3 but I'd like to know both? xD... either way, if that's Windows XP "N" then no... that's just a simple XP without Media Player 10 -_-

What's Nlite?

its a free program where you copy your winxp disk to your drive, then you use nlite to remove anything you want from it easily...such as excess drivers for hardware you dont have, themes, wallpaper or remove all the bloat progs like media player or outlook...even streamline the format/install process so that your ID serial and other settings are automatic and you dont have to sit there with it to install.
you can slipstream sp2 and updates into it and then burn it to cd

i went from 400 mb install without sp2 to only 140mb with sp2, runs faster and smoother.

oh theres also Xplite..it removes all the same things except its used after you install windows so i only recomend it if you dont want to reinstall xp,
use nlites forums for any other questions you have with it.

why not just use Nlite?

If have the option to do it all myself, and possibly make mistakes and get bad results...

OR

have someone do it for me, and work with an already working copy.

lol, i'm lazy.

it's not simply XP "N", if it was i wouldn't be bothered with it.

i'd prefer direct source over torrent, as it's much faster. but torrent will work as well...i jsut go BitComet :) thank you very much.

yea i thought so too.. actually i prefer torrent over others cuz im able to find more stuff and i can get a pretty good rate.. plus its only like aprrox. 120-400 mb.. depending on which one.. so it wouldn't be that bad.. i can get aprrox. 150 KB.. average.. so that is probably how u set your torrent.. whether u open ports and what not.. all those stuff..

well here are some of the ones i was able to obtain..

EDIT: for the direct download. sorry i forgot.. i didn't mean "OR".. i meant u should download it first.. then the rest.. then use it to unrar the rest..

i'm pretty sure that microsoft has never made a stripped down version of any windows other than the without media player one and none are open source.
the ones people distribute on p2p are nlite stripped and likely illegal.

its a modded version..... made for schools and such, they only left whats nessicary for the system to run on the OS, the took out sooooo much of the pretty stuff :P

So am i correct in thinking that this is a stripped down copy of Windows XP, cool :D and for free. So is it actually windows XP as made by M$ for free?

It's not made my M$, it was made by a person called "vertigo173". It's not illegal, as M$ has no kind of hold on it. If you download it and read the readme, you'll understand. He also made another one called XP "Stripped to the Bone".

that is awesome. thanks :D

i can also make a readme file that says i took xp, modified it and now distributed it all over the net as freeware and its perfectly legal. there is the "eiger" which is stripped down version for older pc's, starter edition for taiwan, the school version is sold at discount.

but according to microsoft it is illegal to download windows off of anyone other than microsoft or certified retailer and there is no freeware version of any windows xp.

...accept this isn't a Windows. This is XP "Barely Naked", which isn't available through M$, and has no dealing with the Windows line of products. If M$ had any dealings with this product, there would be validation or authentification in the install process, just like all the rest of there products (there isn't any). They would also have this available at a retail price, and it would be advertised just like the rest of their OS's (which it isn't). You might also find any information on the M$ website dealing with this "version" of Windows (but you can't).

I downloaded this yesterday and installed it on my old system (just 64mb of ram - wasn't expecting much) and wsa surprised to see that it worked, it acts and looks just like XP pro, but without all the fancy colour schemes, and i have been able to get the internet and share my printers on my network with it! So for a free OS it is pretty good! and it evens boots up faster than my laptop, although that doesn't really need to be too quick to do so :D

so its an os made from linux or its own? since no one explained exactly what kind of os it is, its easy for one to assume its something derived from the ms xp core.

its made to look and act just like windows XP, except without all the fancy stuff that no one really needs. i can't exactly say how it was made in detail and all that, since i didn't create it, but i know that if it was in any way tied with M$ they would have there grubby hands all over it by now.
