Sorry with the late response. Log is looking good finally.
However, lets make sure you don't have any unnecessary software installed that shouldn't be. I need you to post a log that combofix produced but didn't automatically show you. Please navigate to C:\Qoobox and in that folder will be a file named add-remove programs.txt. Open that file and copy and paste the contents in your next reply.

Windows BIOS
Hey John - Here's the CF log you requested. I put the comp in sleep mode last night, and this morning was greeted with the "insert media device, press a key, blah blah blah". When I restarted in setup (BIOS), the first channel master showed NONE (as usual), with my HP DVD as 1st boot device priority. I changed that to Floppy as 1st boot device (HP DVD as 2nd - no other choices), inserted the recovery disk, and did a save/restart. Same thing happened ("insert media device etc.). This time on the restart in setup, the first channel master was set to the HDD. I changed the boot device priority to the HDD as 1st choice, and the comp worked on the save/restart. Why the HDD appears sometimes and not others is a mystery (to me anyway). Thanks buddy.

Seems you have no more malware issues. Now I would start doing what Bigfellla suggested and see if there is a bios update for your motherboard. Which there is.

Boot order usually is
First - cdrom
second - hard drive
This setup allows you to boot to bootable cds if needed. You may have a loose or failing data or power cable going to the hard drive. May need to have to take it in to have it diagnosed.

This setup allows you to boot to bootable cds if needed. You may have a loose or failing data or power cable going to the hard drive. May need to have to take it in to have it diagnosed.

Hey, John - I uninstalled the java, and reinstalled from your link. I also updated the BIOS from your link. Went into setup, and the 1st channel master is listed as the HDD; I reset the boot priority to HDD 1st, and CD 2nd, and it seemed to reboot a little faster. Whether the HDD will remain the 1st channel master - only time will tell. Out of curiosity, should the 1st channel master be the same as the 1st boot device, or doesn't it matter?
I also pulled the cover and checked the connections - all appear fine. Hopefully this will do it for now; if not, you know I'll be pounding on your door!. Thanks again for all your help - it's greatly appreciated!
