Windows XP black screen

Hi. I'm going to a friend because he has a computer problem however I'm myself not sure how to solve it. He has a computer running Windows XP and sometimes a black screen with some writing (that he did not tell me what) is suddenly coming and he has to restart the computer. Will installing a copy of windows over the one that he has solve the problem?

Thanks

when you restart it, keep hitting F8 key, and see if you can get a prompt that will allow you to Choose SafeMode, or Last Known Good Coniguration.
Try the Last Known GOod one first.........if that still doesn't work try Safe Mode.

But does entering in safe mode solve any problem?

Need to know what the error message is in order to help more.

The message is: "Setup cannot detect your keyboard.Press ENTER to continue...".
LoL man I am just kidding.Yea we must know what the error is in order to help him.Sorry for this, but I am just so bored so I had to do it ^^

Cheers to me! xD
