Man i have one computer. (i have a win95 one very outdated)Go into your computer properties and then device manager. Go under network adapters and find your network adapter. Now, go on a different computer and download the driver for your adapter*. Use a flash drive or something of the sort to put it on your computer.
*Make sure the driver you download is compatible with XP
It might be that windows xp is getting old now![]()
What Service Pack does your copy of XP have installed ? These days you have to have Service Pack 3 for XP to be able to access the internet. I had that same problem setting up a computer recently. What you have to do is download the installation package for Service Pack 3, onto another computer, then copy it onto a flash stick, then install it on your computer, WITH THE INTERNET CABLE DISCONNECTED. Once it is installed, then reboot, shutdown, and reconnect the cable.

John, that may well be true in some cases, but with XP Home you have to have Service Pack 3. I found that out from an expert online. Further it must be installed with the internet disconnected.
It stopped before installing 7 and ubuntu. It sounds to me like no driver is installed on XP if 7 and Ubuntu aren't having this issue.
