Windows XP Disk Check

Every time I turn on one of my laptops (it is an old Dell Inspiron 8000, running Windows XP), I get the message saying "one of your disks needs to be checked for consistency" or something like that. I can stop it before it starts by pressing "any key," but I was wondering if there was a way to keep this from showing up in the first place.

sounds like something is wrong or it wouldn't do that each time. Probably a minor problem tho if the computer runs fine after.

Yeah, it does run fine afterwards (well, except slowly), so I figured the disk check was running by mistake or something. I just really want to know if I can turn it off.
