Windows XP error (overheating?)

Every so often (probably every day if I leave my pc on), I get the error 'irq_not_ess_or_equal' come up on the XP blue screen of death, and I have to reset. Another common problem is that the whole pc (including mouse pointer) freezes and I have to reset. Both of these events usually happen when the pc is undergoing high levels of activity, such as downloading lots of files simultaneously with limewire. What could be the cause?

Cheers

Jack

EDIT: When the computer is reset, a message comes up saying 'your computer has recovered from a serious error'

well 'irq_not_ess_or_equal' means the ram is not beeing adressed correctly by a program....... you said you were running limeware atr the time, try a reinstall

Ok, i'll try that! Another thing, it resets itself for no reason on occasion, could this be a sign of overheating?

yeah sounds like it, try sticking a themomiter on your cpu... do sum processor intensive stuff (live video encoding) till it cuts out, then as quick as posssible check the themoter
