Windows XP HELP

Hey all, hope someone can help.
Have a computer that was restarting alot so i figured a nice format should fix the problem. Or at least help so it didnt do it so much. Everything went great, the computer was formatted but upon the windows xp home edition setup at about 83% it said "the file dxtmsft.dll was not copied correctly." there was also one at 11% but i skipped it and didnt write it down. Then once this is finished and it tried to install windows half way threw it will say it was unsuccessful. I've tried 2 different windows cds. One home edition and the other media edition and both have the same problems. What can it be, I was thinking perhaps the Hard drive. But what else could it be? And how can I go about fixing this problem?
 
Overclocked anything? It seems that if the memory is even slightly unstable, Windows installation throws crap at you about missing/corrupted files...

Even if you haven't OCed anything, I sugggest you try turning your memory down, I think there was a problem with at least certain Phenom memory controllers, IIRC it wouldn't handle more than two sticks in dual-channel above a certain speed... I forgot about the specifics, I think the problem might've only affected people running 4 DDR2-1066 sticks in dual-channel, but it might be worth giving a shot.
 
I just took out 2 ddr pc 500 1 gig sticks and put in a ddr 512 just to try installing windows again. if it works then yes it would be bad ram. I can just take it back to where i bought it and they should give me new ones right?

You could do that, but as I said, it could be something related to your CPU's memory controller, so getting a replacement stick may not necessarily work.
