When I install Windows XP Pro on a Dell Inspiron 1150, it freezes during the installation. It freeze exactly at the 35 minute mark where it is installing the drivers for the computer. I don't understand why it does it. I have tried different Windows XP disks and removing hardware and then installing it and then it freezes. I need help please I have never experience a problem like this.
Thanks:confused:

You could be running into a problem due to having a preinstalled OS originally on the drive. If the preinstall was a newer release then the disks used that will prevent installation. The drive may simply need to be reformatted to remove the original OS in order to make way for a clean install.

Besides a possible bad drive it may simply need a good cleaning or a new data cable since multiple disks were tried. Besides that you could be seeing faulty memory on the older model laptop. A bad dimm will cause problems.

Most Likely Memory issue

When i tried reformatting and i had a bad memory card it would say that i was missing many files on the cd and that the cd was bad. That wasnt the problem since the cd was new. I took out 1 memory at a time i had 2. And 1 of them was faulty and i was able to finish teh install with only 1 memory and ended up buying another memory card. So use process of elimination and check the memory. hope it helps

A bad dimm will gum up the works fast. Hoping you bought matching memory to replace the bad dimm. You may still want to run memtest or another good memory stress tester to see the other dimm is still good.

The floppy version and ISO image you burn to a cd-r for memtest are available free at http://www.memtest.org/ The alternate site is at http://www.memtest86.com/ with a cd already set to order for cost and S&H.

The lazer on the optical drive itself or a flaky cable. I seem to keep running into the last one there with problems seen with the dvd drive light staying on or simply restarting a few times just to boot off of the Vista install disk here. Yet the drive and cable is good.

A good lens cleaner might help you there if the drive is now loaded up with dust. That will cause a drive to act crazy and end up seeing lockups while trying to install Windows or some other software.

I have done that. I have also played around seeing if other OS's would install like vista, and it does.So i have no clue what the issue is. Another thing,i would not prefer to run vista on it cause it willbarely mee the requirement so thanks

If the system there has a sata by some odd chance Vista would go right on having it's own generic drivers as well as the improvement in hardware detection while XP will stall unless you use either a sata driver disk or select the press S for special devices option and choose the closest chipset that matches what the board has.

You could be still looking at a hardware issue however. One thing you can try is following the XP stalls with 34 minutes left information seen at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;828267

That discusses installation hang ups with XP when seeing the main gui appearing and the default drivers being installed right when everything comes to a stand still.
