Windows XP keeps rebooting

Is there any way to figure out why my computer keeps rebooting when ever it wants? It seems to do it more often when I close out a program or web site. It just shuts down and re-starts. No blue screen. Some days it will do it 4 or 5 times and other days once.

One possibility is defective RAM; and another possibility is corrupt OS, and a third possibility is overheating.

Well it can shut down 2 minutes after turning it on,so I don't think it's over heating. I keep the inside pretty clean to.Is there a way to check the history of the system to see whats going on?

Did you look under system and application headings? What operating system are you running? Try pressing F8 on bootup to access safe mode options and select where it says disable automatic restart on error. Then the next time it errors, you will see a blue screen then just give us the data that it has.

Well I think I found my problem. FireFox... when I would have severale tabs open and tried to close them my computer would crash. Has been running with no problems with IE8. Does anyone have a suggestion on a good browser? I really liked FireFox but if it's going to give me problems,I have to look for something else. IE8 is ok but I'm sure theres something better.

Great to know you have fixed the problem, been having a few problems with firefox to keeps crashing etc atm im running safari and its running great no problems hope this helps.

LoL if the Firefox causes this problem then I can surely tell you that this is not because of the Firefox.I mean I used Firefox many times and had many many tabs opened and when I would close them all at once, there wouldn't be any crash. My point is that it can be a virus that crashes your computer at a specified time, bad process, terminated process that was not supposed to be terminated, bad registry or completely corrupted operating system files. But it is SURELY not the Firefox lol.

You said it is not overheating...well it can be that too.Your temperature grews depending on the tasks you are performing.Maybe today it crashed only once because you were doing something simple such as the internet surfing and the other day it crashed 5 times while you were making a big video editing and some other big tasks which take a lot CPU usage.Check the temperature in the BIOS and let us know.

Cheers!

I read several reviews/forums about ff and other people have reported the same problem. All I know is since I got rid of ff it has not crashed once. As far as over heating, sometimes I would turn the computer on in the morning and open a page and close it all in about 2 minutes and it would reboot...so I don't think it is an over heating problem. I did bring in my computer to a computer shop and they reported no viruses. They suggested trying different browser according to the blue screen report.

Well I thought I would get back to everyone about my rebooting problem. It's been around 3-4 weeks since I deleted Firefox out of my system and installed Chrome. Not once has my computer shutdown. It runs very fast and Chrome has all the extensions I need. Love it!!!!
