Not sure if ive posted this is in right section but here goes:

When i log in using one of the log-in's i get to the desktop and the computer freezes, well i can move the mouse pointer but cannot select or do anything.

I can log on using a different user and have no problems at all...

Anyone else had this or know what it could possibly be??

Users can have different software programs for their name, so perhaps there's some startup program that's causing a problem? Maybe log into safe mode and try to uninstall anything you don't need for startup?

Also, I don't think you can have different hardware profiles for different users, but perhaps there's something there...

hmm thanks for the advice. I tried this, still no change.

Its strange because if i use one of the other log-in's for about 5 mins then change users... my account works...

but now the other log-in does the same thing!!

im thinking that it may have something to do with my virus protection (norton) because it normally freezes when the virus software starts...

anyone else had any problem like this?

There might be something starting up on your user. Run msconfig.exe when you on your username. If so then make sure it doesn't start up again.

Are you using Norton System Works & Norton Ghost? I had a prob like yours on an a win2k P4 1G 128mb computer while running those progs.

I agree, look at your taskmanager/processes tab, and click CPU title bar 2 times, (that sorts all processes and puts the process using the most CPU time on the top of the list). Tell us what 2 or 3 processes take up the most CPU time...
