Windows XP "My Computer" Problem

Every once in a While, Randomly, When I boot up my computer, Log in, and Open up "My Computer", the animation of a flash light and a folder, come up, so its looking for "My Computer" , it will set there for about 2 minutes or more, and then my drives and folders and what not, come up, but if i close out "my computer" the open it up again, it does the same thing, and like if i go into MS Word and open a file and Click "My Computer" the program will freeze, i have to reboot my computer about 5-6 times before it loads "My Computer" Normally, which is instantly, It only does it when i use SP3, but about 3 of my programs require SP3, I've reformatted countless times, and even installed off of the 2 DIFFERENT XP Discs I have, and it still refuses to work like a normal computer.

Sorry, for the long quest, but it makes working on a project, very difficult, when i need fast access to my drives.

BTW , It works like this, i will load like normal 5 times then it will be stubborn 5 times

Is it slow in other areas (programs etc) or opening other folders too? Or is it really only with "My Computer". When you reformatted the HDD and reinstalled XP, did it have that problem right away or only after installing other things (drivers, app etc)?

Since you mention you have reformatted and reinstalled windows several times, I would want to rule out a HDD problem at this point. It has happened to me more than once (helping other people), that I have reinstalling windows more than once and I still can't get rid of the problem and it ended up being a bad sector in a HDD.

Use a program like GWScan 5.12 to do HDD diagnostics. You'll burn the iso to a disc. Then reboot to the disc. Run the SMART test as well as the Extended test (which will first run a quick test) and see if you get any errors.
After a test, you can go to the main menu and select to see the results of a test.

If all comes out okay on the tests, it is still not 100% sure that the HDD is okay (I've had that happen to me too).

Anyway, it's just a thought to rule out the HDD as the source of your problem.
 
Not saying that its your problem but I looked in your signature and noticed you have a 250watt power supply. What brand is that? I would not run the system you have on a 250 watt psu. I would run a 450-500 watt with good outputs.

Have you done any virus or malware scans? Ran disk cleanup? Defragmented hard drive?
 
Hey guys, i did some more research, on this problem, and i found out, that i must reboot my HP Officejet 7300, because of a WIA Service, problem, and i fount that rebooting my all-in-one, fixes the problem instantly, thanks for your help guys!
