windows xp pro passwords and log on

hi guys, i need to do something but im not sure the best way to do it. What i want is that my BIOS turns my PC on, simple, i can do that, but then of course windows stops to log on, it needs a password, how can i get it to not need a password to logon, and go straight to the desktop.

Now your thinking, well just take the passowrd off the account, simple again, no i wnat the account to still have a password assigned to it, i just dont want it to be prompted for when i log on, if say i lock the PC, with Win Key + L i still want it to prompt for a password etc...

Anyone got any ideas...?? oh and no i dont want to use the password resume feature on screensavers to lock the PC, that defeats the object of my goal....

Thanks, i know its a wierd question, but there must be a way....??

thanks, dragon2309 :D

Well, I might be wrong, but I think that's the only way that you can do that... Maybe just put the screensaver down to a 1 minute wait time as you leave???

hmm, yeh,. how about if i hibernate the PC, instead of shutting down, does it ask for a password to log on after comng out of hibernation mode??? that could work, as long as the BIOS is capable of starting the PC when its hibernating.

Well, I was thinking about this again. And you'd have to add the password when you were going to change the delay down to 1 minute, and then take it off again when you come back...

Actually, if you set the password with the screensaver, I think it only comes on then. Then it would leave the username log-on password free. Unfortunately, I think this would also leave the hibernate function free from a password as well...

Just train of thought, throwing out ideas..., let me know what works and what doesn't...

maybe make windows not need a password but then download a screensaver program that makes you need a password?

Here is what you need to do:
Go to start->Run and type 'Control Userpasswords'->RUN
Then Click Change the way users log on or off
Then Uncheck Use the Welcome Screen box
Then simply click apply
You will be prompted to set a defult user account to log on
SIMPLE- auto log on!!
Hope this helps!!!!
