Windows XP Pro X64 compatibility?

Hey guys, I was wondering, is it absolutely neccessary to have a EM64T compatible processor in order to run this opperating system?

i have a LGA775 P4 640 3.2ghz prescott processor, will this work with XP x64?

yes that is a 64bit chip and it will work

Thank you, how do you know the chip i have is a 64bit chip? i checked the box of the processor and it doesn't say EM64T compatible, and i checked with cpu-z as well, and couldn't find the relavent information.

I just want to know for my own benefit in the future

my gf has a dual core 2.8 and it explicitly states on the box that its EM64T compatible

I believe all Pentium 4 6xx series are 64Bit.
