Hi Guys

I need your help again please. Sorry.

It seems my hdd was corrupt and I have now purchased a new one.

I have downloaded the Windows XP Professional Set-up disks (All 6) When I am installing I get upto the 5th disk then it dies on me and says something about an NTFS.sys error or something? Has anyone come across this error before?

Many thanks
Darren

1. Open My Computer
2. Select a drive and goto properties
3. What does it say under FileSystem :)

Thanks - still no joy :(

Here is the exact error:-

file ntfs.sys caused an unexpected error(4100) at line 5010 in d:\xpclient\base\boot\setup\setup.c

Could it be caused by a faulty memory? Run a memtest first.
And how the first HDD crashed? It could be caused by the same bad RAM...

Hi Lorand,

Thanks for your input :)

Please could you (If you know) let me know where I can get something to run the memory test, that is taking into consideration I have no OS installed so it will need to be be bootable from a: drive I guess?

Many thanks
Darren

Hello

Well, I ran the memory test and not one error was found

I think i'll just throw everything in the bin and start again gah.

Thanks everybody!!

I finally managed to install XP by using a windows me boot disk then installing directly from CD.

For some reason the boot disk was setting my CD drive as Y: which I didn't realise.
