Hi all

Recently, I built a new computer (see sig) and I am wondering if it is worthwhile to 'upgrade' to windows xp 64 bit edition, since my new CPU supports it. Now, this link:

suggests that there is no noticeable difference between the two, but that was written in 2005. Have things changed much since then?

In short, will I see a performance increase if I get Windows XP Professional x64?

Why go with Vista x64? Does it give more performance?

Can you please give me some examples of 64 bit applications? Thanks.
 
Well I think that PhotoShop can use 64x bit, and CAD programs and other video/image editing programs, but for the average user, you should go with 32x bit. Most programs that the everyday user uses will not utilize 64 bit processing, and many hardware components do not have drivers for it, which is why if you absolutely want 64 bit processing, go Vista, which is only 64 bit, and is what all the new drivers will be made for.

So are you saying that with my new E6600, there will be absolutely no performace increase (Im sorry i know that youve heard this question countless times)?
