Repaired a laptop that worked fine under windows xp home. Person lost disk so a copy of windows xp professional was loaded. Service packs installed etc. Before new install sound work fine. Now windows xp pro installed it won't work, although sound card onboard and appears no problems. Any ideas??
 
sounds like a driver issue, XP home and XP pro can work differently, make sure that the sound card drivers are compatible with XP pro aswell.
 
have you installed the sound card drivers? the sound card is likely to be integrated and often xp doesn't come with the drivers for them
