Windows XP setup failure

ok so i'm trying to setup windows xp on my old motherboard, the GA-8I915MD-GV (Gigabyte) and for some reasons, setup always gives me errors that "xxxoem.bin" cannot be copied. (i put the x's cause i forgot the whole file name, but its some oem.bin )

The cd is ok, no scratches at all, and I also swapped different cd drives, but to no avail.. cannot copy that specific file.
I reset the Bios also but nothing would work....

any suggestions

Last time i checked my motherboard was in good condition

Well I can only come up with noob suggestions...like....

Sure your HD is alright?

Also, just out of curiosity, I'd try running/installing a linux distro, see if it works good... just to figure out whether it's something XP specific.

Try doing the full format instead of the quick format. If that don't help then most likely you have a memory problem. When someone has problems copying files in Setup then it usually suggests bad memory. You might want to run memtest on the memory or try using only 1 stick at a time to figure out which one is bad.

I will try that tomorrow, gonna do some overtime !!
by the way i have only 1stick, 1gb pc2-4200. no worries though i will try those and let u know

wtf is wrong with this computer ?
i did the full format, i also erased the drive completely.
for whatever sh*tty reason it cannot copy oembios.bin.

wtf ?
in the past i formatted this piece of sh*t without problems at all

i manage to get by the oembios.bin, only to get stuck at the rawwan.sys
Tat is bullsh*t if you ask me. i forced it by pressing enter a gazillion times, then for me to get a BSOD saying PFN_LIST_CURRUPT

wtf ?

OH SNAP !!!
Bad memory , Timing is not good.
But anyways at least i figured what it was.. got me scared for a second !!

What software did you use to test your memory? I have never tested my RAM before. Just curious. Thanks.

You can use memtest to check your memory if you are running XP. Vista has its own memory checker that you can boot into on startup.

i am just too new. so "memtest" is it a software that we need to add or a command within XP???just wanted to test mine PCs memory and you guys mean bad RAM for bad memory right?

so "memtest" is it a software that we need to add or a command within XP???

no it's a software in windows xp, the one i used was emded on the GPARTED Live cd, but you can also get memtest Iso's here

Told you it was bad memory, could have saved you a lot of headache.

yeah i saw various forums saying the same thing, but the thing is the pc works with the ram, just the setup, and i also noticed while installing the display driver (using the same ram) the pc blacked out and didn't boot. lol yeah memory issue :o
