A bit more detail is needed, do you only have one partition to begin with, and you are trying to overwrite it completely to install XP??

If so you should really delete the partition or at least format it before attempting to install XP

Sounds like he is trying to do it from windows and then restarting into the boot is this a full install cd? If so just go into your bios and tell it to boot to your cd rom and then you will be able to delete that partition...

Lets see :

change your bios boot options so it boots from the cd drive first, save. boot from the cd, get through that process to the partition part. delte the FIRST partition, but leave the 8MB partition alone, delete the one your going to install XP on, just not the 8mb one. after deleting it and formatting the process is pretty much automated.
