Windows XP SP2 Hangs Frequently

My computer is a pretty new custom built gaming rig (built April 08), with Windows XP Pro SP2 on it. Here are my specs:

Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4ghz Q6600
RAM: 4gb
Graphics: Nvidia 8800 GTS 512mb
Motherboard: ASUS P5N-D nForce i750

I did have it overclocked to 2.6ghz, but I put it back after I started having stability issues. Every time I boot into windows, it will crash about 5 minutes later. It will totally and instantly hang. The mouse just freezes, and I have to hit the reset button. It seems after about the 4th or 5th reset it becomes stable again. It works fine for days on end perfectly stable in Gentoo, but crashes all the time in Windows.

A few months ago, I was having a strange problem where I had to flip the switch on my power supply off and back on before every boot, or I would get a mup.sys hang on boot. This went away and was replaced with my windows installation being all sluggish. Then a few weeks ago, the hanging started. I tried re-installing windows, but my 2 day old windows installation has went back to hanging exactly like before.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I should do? Are there any diagnostic programs that I could run that could give me a log or something to give me a hint at what is causing the hang?

Yeah, I have a similar problem with the Asus P6N-SLI Platinum. It was great at first and it seemed to degrade a bit; especially after I lightly played with the voltage. I've never been able to overclock with it though. It crashed as soon as it raised the frequency to the slightest degree.

In reality it could be a number of things. Perhaps you're having driver compatibility issues, software issues, maybe it's running too warm from the OC.

I recommend just reinstalling Windows and see if that clears it up. Run a system stability test for a while when you get XP loaded back up.

Read my post, I said I removed my OC and reinstalled windows, and the problem is still here, and the temperature is fine.

I have a similar problem in the past. Seems something wrong with your mainboard(just some module). Sorry for my weak English
