I am running windows XP on my Dell computer but ever since my computer was running slowly and i restarted it keeps looping through the boot up sequence. I don't have Windows XP disk so can't repair it from disk neither do i have a boot disk.

Any ideas?

Try to boot in safe mode, you get in to safe mode by pressing on the "F8" button at the first boot screen.
Then run a chkdsk on your main HDD.

I am not with computer at the moment but when i get back is it just a matter of me of opening in safe mode start > run > type 'cmd' enter and then type into command prompt 'chdsk'.

Easiest way would be to right click on your C: drive icon in "My computer", choose "Properties", "Tools", click "Error Checking (Check Now) and ensure Automatically fix File System Errors is checked. Finish off by clicking "Start" and the computer will reboot and do its business.

If you decide to go the other route then in cmd mode you must add the "f" switch otherwise it will read only and not repair.

But you may be prompted for a system disk :(
