windows xp with athlon x2

hello;

i just have a quick question. i am still using windows xp 32-bit sp2 and was wondering if it uses both cores of my cpu.

this is prolly a dumb question lol

because it seems like i'm not getting a lot of performance... maybe its just my hdd...atm i'm using an ide one, the one in my sig i'll be getting in the near future

Open Windows Task Manager, right-click on a process(say your browser) and click Set Affinity. If dual core is working correctly, you should see CPU 0 and CPU 1 with checks by them. If CPU 1 is grayed out, you're only running a single core.
