Hi,

Can someone please help me out fast?

I started my comp this morning to discover that windows did not boot:mad:

It does not show the Windows logo and just says the following-

NTLDR is compressed
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

So thats what i did and i still get the same error above.
I have done a system recovery and it said it succesfully recovered my system but it has not.
Is there a way i can get the problem sorted fast as i need my pc.
Thankyou.

1. Boot from you windows XP CD.
2. Press "R" when it ask you if you want to repair or install windows XP.
3. Press the number of your XP install(normally one), and then press enter.

Now you are at the recorvery console, and you can type "fixboot" or "fixmbr" to fix your ntldr problem

OK i have three choices-
1. C:\MiniNT
2. D:\ i386
3 D:\WINDOWS

Which one do i select and what do i then type to fix the problem?

You will need to do a destructive restore. With HP's and Compaq's its hard to repair the OS without doing a destructive restore. I tried doing a non-destructive restore on a friends compaq and it actually was worse then before we even started. So your best bet is to do a destructive restore. Copy any important data before you start, you will have to copy it back once you are finished reinstalling.

The Hp recovery program has an advanced option to do a destructive restore. There should be an advanced option button at the beginning of the recovery program.

Does this mean you used XP's system restore or a manufacturer's system recovery program? I might have acted too fast and took as you used a system recovery program. If you used XP's system restore then I just confused you even more.

Windows should be installed on C drive. What is MiniNT? Sounds like your boot record is all screwed up.

Its the The Hp recovery disk that came with the computer that im using.
Its not the Windows xp one.

Ive tried Windows and its still the same.
And i also cannot find that Destructive restore that JohnB35 was talking about on my Hp recovery disk.
