There is a command prompt available in WindowsXP. Start --> Run --> cmd

Just so you know, Command.com and DOS are virtually synonomous.

The last commercial version of DOS (6.22) was released in 1994 since then, MS-DOS and the command.com have been your only access to a DOS-like environment. DOS is a very powerful high level language OS (I know sounds funny.. but it is) the command.com you see in XP is very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very limited.

If you want to install linux and partition you drive (if your primary is not already taking up the entire disk), when your computer boots get into your CMOS settings and change the boot order to start with the CD-ROM, put in the linux cd and go through the steps.

Or buy another Hard Drive.

Oh im quite aware although the nifty thing about the MS OS Dev philosophy is that there is damn near full backwards compatability at the core ... whether that compatability is trickled out to the end applications is another issue but the stuff is designed to work fully backwards ... also do note that I said "synonomous", rather than "equivalent" :)

Aye thats what i did .. hate them dual/multi boots :)
