Wine is an Open Source implementation of the Windows API on top of X and Unix.

Think of Wine as a compatibility layer for running Windows programs. Wine does not require Microsoft Windows, as it is a completely free alternative implementation of the Windows API consisting of 100% non-Microsoft code, however Wine can optionally use native Windows DLLs if they are available. Wine provides both a development toolkit for porting Windows source code to Unix as well as a program loader, allowing many unmodified Windows programs to run on x86-based Unixes, including Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X, and Solaris.

This is encouraging me to use linux now that i can run some of my windows games and programs in it.

What do you guys think about it?

WINE = WINE IS NOT AN EMULATOR...wine is a software which calls up some libraries to be able to run windows software..not all software will run.for a full compatibility list u can check a site call "franks corner"....just go to google and type "franks corner and the first link u'll get, click it...im not sure bout games as wine only run softwares...u can try Transgaming cedega for games......dont say this is encouraging u to use linux...get a spare HD install linux and try it..i know u will like it..some distros have a very high learning curve but if u want basic stuff try PClinuxOS,FREESPIRE,SIMPLY-MEPIS,and UBUNTU .....im pretty sure u will find one you'll love...hope it helps

and dont worry about viruses with linux if u get one, it wont be called a virus cause it wont be able to do anything to your filesystem..it will stop dead in its tracks
