I'm planning on completely wiping my harddrive and operating system using a program called Darik's boot and nuke. I've got quite a few questions as I've never done this before and want to be 100% sure I've done everything right!
1. How do you change Darik's boot and nuke from its default setting to the highest erasing standard available? (I want to make sure it's almost impossible for anyone to even recover snippets of the data).
2. How do you change the setting so DBAN will overwrite all file names as well?
3. Unfortunately, a few years ago my computer was taken away by a local company so they could remove a few viruses. At that time we had windows ME, they put Windows XP professional on as well ( we now use both). Anyway, is it possible to erase both Operating system separately, I want to do them once at a time.
4. When the erasing has finished and I want to install the OS again, will I simply reboot the PC and install ME from the very first window that comes up when I turn on the PC, (It has a black background and gives you an option of which operating system to start, XP is at the top and ME is below- you just use the enter/navigation keys to chose)!
5. Which OS should I install first after the format, ME or XP. Also once I've installed the first one will I be able to install the 2nd one through the first one (sorry, I know that makes no sense at all, but I couldn't think how to put it).
6. When I reinstall both OS's what kind of options should I expect to come up, can someone tell me exactly what I'll need to press and what options I'll need to select on both XP and ME? As I said I've never done it before and I don't want to do anything wrong.
