I am going to sell the first computer I bought (got a new one now) to raise some cash but the HDD contains my bank and credit card details and personal information which I clearly don't wish to "sell" on!!!
Is there any freeware that will ensure that if I clean the disk the data can't be recovered by someone using another software package. I understand that formatting the disk is not enough to clean the disk thoroughly.
I don't want to destroy the disk as I am selling the PC in full working order and will re-load the OS after removing all my personal data.
Identity theft is bad in the UK and having had my personal details stolen from my employers computer system in 2006 I don't want to fall into the same trap.
