Wireless Card Recommendations - Help

So I have ordered a build, and I realized it might be best for my apartment to be wireless. My main aim with connection quality is gaming. I will be using the computer for everyday use as well.

For games in general, I plan on playing Starcraft2 and FPS, is going wireless a bad idea, and it is a good idea, what is a budget card that will provide me with confidence and stability in my connection. My apartment has a typical linksys router, which seems to work despite its environment and 1 broken antenna.

My older desktop does not get good reception from it, but I don't think it gets good reception anywhere, so assuming I have an average linksys router that works average, what would you guys say?

As a side note, I am also considering a webcam and a keyboard, so if there are any good bargain webcams that might be worth noting, keyboard I would assume is all preference assuming quality.

From what other people have said, wireless gaming just doesn't work well. I am not a gamer though, so I am not sure.

As for webcams, if you want a really cheap one, I got the XBox Live Camera for my mac. I spent 15 bucks on it. The quality is pretty impressive, but it doesn't have a built in mic.
 
get a router/pc card (not usb) that match well, you'll need wireless n 300m

i sell tp-link, it'll run you about $80 (off the top of my head) for the set

linksys or dlink are more, best speed and reliability will be a wire :(
 
It will depend on your initial connection, from my experience, the latency and ping is higher on wireless, but if your connection is good, then the difference should not be noticable, i have 50 mbps, my ping and latency is roughly 15-25, and wireless is roughly the same. i think on the games you play it would be 40-50, the normal average. i played star trek online, and that was about 40 ping. on my connection on wireless.
Now i do not know which one is good, but i have bought 3 different external dongles, and they do not work on my computer, or my friends computer so be carefull. i do not list them here since i bough different makes and they work on some computers, but i think it has something to do with windows 7 compatibility, or one of the updates for it. I would recommend and am sure you came to same conclusion to buy internal. I think do not buy cheap ones, and make sure that it is N one, so at least speed would be 100/125/150 mbps on LAN. this would ensure that you stay connected, and perhaps for your home get an N router, it will have a better coverage too (at least the ones i have seen have better coverage even the cheaper versions)
Sorry not much help with actual choice but i just use my wired for my desktop.
Check your connection with pingtest.net and speedtest.net, the speedtest is a bit stupid, since i think some of their servers cannot handle anything higher than 25mbps, since when i check my connection it says i have over 200 mbps. which is funny

I am on cable internet on the top floor of a 12 story apartment building. I have a couple of the cheapo 8 dollar ebay externals, one of them worked great on my laptop for a while for the price, but not on my old desktop, one had vista one had xp, but anyway, I am thinking wired might be a better option for me, based on what you guys and other people are saying about wireless, is there a good way to run 1 wire to my room and split it on a budget without strength loss and conflict issues?

edit: I just looked around NewEgg, it is only 9 bucks for a 50 ft. cat5/6 cable!? wtf that shit is like 50 bucks at Staples or something like that right, I just ordered by build, so my mobo is new, what kind of network cable do I need Cat 5E? Cat 6E? etc...?

well while I have the thread open and while I'm ordering, should I be concerned about surge protection for my desktop pc and monitor/tv and how much do I need to spend/what should I get?

You at least need a surge protector. Most people recommend a UPS as well(for the computer), but I have never used one. You just need to make sure that whatever you get is quality. The surge protector should have several outlets, so I would plug the monitor into it as well. I am not sure if that is necessary though.
 
I was looking at like 15 dollar range protectors, but someone suggested a 40 dollar one to me, can I get something that will protect me for more the range I was looking that has any quality, I would prefer a damage replacement warranty, a protection indicator light, and maybe some kind of legit certification.
