wireless card?

If you add one, it's not added to your internal card, if that's what you mean. Most after market wireless cards are better than typical internal ones, but not all. I've seen some pretty sorry ones, and I've seen some plain awesome ones... Some even offer you to add external antennas for even better reception.
 
The internal ones are surprisingly good actually. I would only buy an external one if the current one doesnt support what your trying to use, such as if you card is just 802.11b and you want to use 802.11g, or pre-n.

But keep in mind that having an external adapter will use more power and drain your battery faster.
 
You can get PCMCIA wireless card for your laptop or , like me, if you have another laptop that is broken but was a really good laptop, pull out that internal card and stick it in the laptop.
 
I got an external card when i got my laptop because it was recommended for longer range. After having it for while I wished I had got the internal.
 
if you had 2 different wireless connections in your house you could benefit from 2 different wireless cards.
you can bridge the 2 connections so you get the combined speed of both connections on 1 pc
 
You can but if the internal is working well there is no point in having some PCMCIA sticking out the side of the laptop and also i wouldnt recommend USB ones as they are not very good.
 
a wireless card can only connect to one connection at a time. if you have 2 wireless connections available then you would benefit from having 2 wireless cards.

Just use Linux you can already run instances of network adapters (virtual adapters) in the OS and have multiple connections, what exact are you trying to accomplish with this though?
