Wireless Connection Problems

My friends is trying to connect to her friend's router, who knows about it and is letting her connect to he's network. But every time she enters in the key password and tries connecting to friend's router, it keep saying "Limited or No Connectivity." What does that mean exactly and how do I help her fix this problem?

the wireless signal strength mite be low, are the computers in the same room/house ?

No the friend's router is about 5 doors down from her, they both live in a townhouse complex. If I had to guess, I would guess that the router is about 25-30 feet from where she lives.

25 feet is within range but you have to account for how many walls are between and whats in the walls such as metel studs and electrical wireing and such this could cause the issue.

also if the router is setup for WPA then the systems needs SP2.

I have seen people use the worng pass key with certain routers.

On a netgear dg834 - very common - if you use WEP, and enter a passphrase, the actual key is one of the 5 listed below the passphrase. People always try to enter the passphrase. This wont work!

WEP is fairly outdated, WPA is what you are best using.

I have SP2 and I tried connecting to my friend's network and I still get the "Limited or No Connectivity" message.

That might be the case Deepblue.

I'm not sure what type of router it is, but I know it's a WEP and I enter the key about 10 times and I still not able to connect to the internet.

thts partly what i meant by "interference". try moving them closer to each other with fewer walls and other interferences between them

Do you enter the passphrase of the key?

Thanks everyone for your help. My friend give me the SSID name for her friend's network and now everything is working fine now.
