Wireless for Gaming?

First off, is it even plausible when going from a direct LAN connection.

Second, i know wireless bandwidth is "shared" between computers, but i'm not really sure how this process works. I know i will be having multiple computers on the wireless network, as some are already on it, but i've always kept my gaming rig on a direct LAN connection because, at least in the past, wireless was much slower.

Third, will one G connection (such as on an older laptop) bring an entire N network down to G speeds? I browsed the forum first before i posted here and found this little tidbit somewhere, and wanted to verify it.

Thanks.

Well, haha sorry man, im having a hard time followin you with your questions, but for sure, i know the last one, no one connection that uses a slower speed will not bring down the whole network, i constantly have g and n mixed and on n i get about 160mb/s on g, 54mb/s of course. ill leave the other two for someone else:P

I've never had good luck with wireless, and I'm not sure if it's just my ISP or if it's just my luck. Wired connecting my XBox 360 was the only thing feasible back in my day (about 2 years ago during the Halo 2 craze) and after that I stopped playing. I had wireless for three days, and lagged so bad that I was being owned worse than a prostitute on a street in LA. Anyway, I recommend staying wired, but I'm sure there's plenty who would urge you to move into the wireless age. I just thing wireless is too choppy. Maybe if you go with a N-based router and have a good signal to the receiver it will be good, but if not, it's a waste of money.

yes, you can game wirelessly to answer the other 2 questions that aren't already :P

I used to paly WoW, CoD4, CS:S, lots of games basically over a wireless connection (G) and the speeds were fine. i was usually around the 60-80 ping mark on most servers, unless they were on the other side of the world ofcourse.

However it is better wired. We had a big switch around and my syswtem is now next to the router hard wired and my mums is upstairs instead, and now i have ping of 30-40

If you can keep it wired, great, but if you need to go wireless you shouldn't get lag so long as you have a decent internet connection and your router isn't too sucky.

And provided your computer isn't mine and sucks
