Right, i have 1 pc in my room - connected with a modem and a router and in a room down stairs i have another computer along. previously i bought "2 wireless G usb network adapters (54mbps) for my computer(s).

when i plug-in one of the adapters it connects to my router at a speed of 11.0mbps but it says signal is excellent.
and then when i plug in a different adapter it says speed is 54.0mbps!
why is the first adapter at 11.0mbps?
its a belkin make and i have experienced problems before but not like this.

has anyone every had this problem and how do i solve this? because it isnt running at 11.0mbps it just say that.

the problem is that you have configured that adapter to run in "b" mode

there are 4 kinds of wifi - a, b, g, n

you do not have to worry about n for now

a was made for speed, b was made for range (but slower speed)

then we got g which is a combination of both

you just need to configure it to run in a or g mode (g is recommended)

n is way faster and has way more range than anything before
