Hello- For wireless access do I need a account with some internet provider or can I just install the hardware, (I guess that's the card) and be somewhere where access is provided? Because my public library has wireless access so I was thinking maybe I can pick it up as long as I have the hardware also do I need a router? I am completely clueless to wireless access so any help would be great thank you.

You just need a network adapter (Usually in all laptops). Then it picks up the signal and you should be able to connect. Probably need a password though.. Maybe

How old is your laptop?Does it have a 802.11 card?
IF not you are going to need a one of these if it has a card slot.

Well... You can by a wireless card unless it has one built in and go to the library. It won't cost you anything. (Unless you have to buy a wireless card). Unless you want internet at home, it is free.
