wireless internet connection

Help! Am not great on the techno side so please be patient!!:) I have a router primarily so that my daughter can wireless connect to internet.
She's bought a new laptop now (Sony) and can actually connect to my wireless network - but can't connect to the internet. Message appears "limited connection"... We've tried one or two things without success. Any ideas anyone?

First thing would be to check that all the cables a securely in place and that the antenna(s) of the router (If it has any) are straight up
