Wireless Internet not working

I recently installed a wireless PCI card in my desktop. My neighbor has DSL internet with a router, so we're splitting the bill. I bought the Netgear WG311 card, and I have a connection to his internet, but no websites load. Is there a setting on IE I need to change? Also, can I get rid of the Netgear software and just use the Windows connection manager to find the network I want? What I mean is, by getting rid of the Netgear connection manager, will that cause the card not to work anymore?

Thanks,

B

You probably should have posted this into the Computer Networking and Servers room, but I'll try to answer your question.

If you were getting Internet before you got wireless (through LAN or whatever) then your settings for IE should be fine. Uninstalling the Netgear connection manager will not prevent the card from working as long as this doesn't uninstall the drivers for the card. The only problem with doing this is that if you are having problems with your card it will be more difficult to troubleshoot the problem from Netgear's website if you are not using their software. I would suggest keeping the Netgear connection manager and checking out the support site for your card: http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/WG311.asp

Hey bfodle, be careful who you advertize that to. Even though you and your neighbor are sharing the bill its still illegal to share his connection outside of his house. Not trying to sound mean but must companies frown on this and if the right person was to see it you may loose that connection from them..

Thanks for the info. I'll keep that in mind.

To the link above: Thanks, I'll try going through that and see what I can do. Thanks again, both of you.
