Wireless Internet Usually Low

I have a linksys WRT54G and the connection is useally low. I know this becuse the computer icon in the system tray is usally dark blue, light blue for high or excellent connection. It went off for a second then I clicked connect it's back online but it's low. It's a 54 MB router. Which is better 54 or higher?

a faster router isn't necessairly going to have a better range, also your speed will also drop more as you get farther and farther from the access point. What i'd suggest if you're having problems would be to buy a high gain antinna that usually helps out.

The problem as AdmnPower said is most likely because you are far from the AP/Router, so the speed will be slow and increased latency.

I usua;lly within 20 feet of the router, ven if I'm within 5 feet, like right next to it, I get low connection.
