Well, Im new to this stuff but for awhile now, I've been using a laptop that has AOL Broadband and been connecting to wireless internet with a friends router that is near my house. But now I am getting a desktop computer and i still wanted to connect to the internet wirelessly but in my room, the connection is terrible with my laptop, so my question is, do I only need a router and a PCI card/USB stick to connect to the internet since I already have internet service?

You would need a wireless card in the desktop to connect to a wireless router. Personally i am not a fan of linksys, but yeah that card looks fine.

You need to know if the router is DSL or ADSL, and what your ISP requires. By the looks of it its a DSL and i think AOL (if thats ur ISP) requires an ADSL modem.

Other than that it should be plain sailing, simply set up the wireless network - remember encryption - and you should be set.

Good choices on the components

Draft-N for matched set will be just fine. Because when draft-N becomes the standard N, something tiny will change to make all draft-N products obsolete but not useless. So, manufacturers will cut the cost of their existing inventory of draft-N and mark-up their standardized-N two-fold. And to liquidate their current inventory of draft-N, they will market it as nothing wrong with them. So, you can take your draft-N components in 2009 and sell them on Ebay or Amazon Marketplace to someone who doesn't care too much about the tiny difference between the standardized version and the draft version enough to pay a higher cost for a standardized N. You follow me? In other words, don't listen to anyone that tells you to avoid Draft-N, because if you are willing to pay for the bandwidth, you might as well enjoy it now instead of waiting for another 9 months or so.
 
Oh, and this is just another opinion of mine, don't get the USB stick. Get the PCI card version. Either my Belkin wireless router sucks or my Belkin USB wireless sucks (both draft-N). But I'm pretty sure it's a USB problem. I'm thinking about going Linksys soon.

How do you find out if the router is DSL or ADSL?

Would anyone reccomend any router + PCI Card?
 
well Mrjimbo is right, Belkin wireless products do suck. i've had a draft N router and it just cuts out from time to time.

Usually it should list it with the specifications, that one didnt. A quick google search with the product number turned up this site http://www.ebuyer.com/product/129215 which does list it as DSL.

What you might find is your ISP, if you contact them, will provide a wireless router that is compatible with their service for free - atleast that was the case for me.

I have to say i dont know much about routers i haven't owned. Netgear is quite good but the software can be a pain and i have heard good things about D-Link. Look at something like http://www.amazon.com/Netgear-WGR61...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1205056237&sr=8-1

Thats a basic one, but it'll get the job done and FYI its DSL, but you can get them with ADSL modems should you need it.
 
You can't just make a general statement about Belkin wireless adapters. I have had two successful adapters from Belkin now, both different models. I cannot remember the first one, but after two years it stopped working - I pushed the PC back and it snapped in half. The other is a Belkin F5D9050 G+ Wireless USB adapter which I still use today, and am writing this from now. I've had it for two years, and it has never let me down (plus I can't crush this one, because it has a USB extension and a stand). So, don't just blame it on Belkin, just don't get N or Draft-N until its ready. They've only released it because they want you to spend money on it, so they don't have to test it. For me, until N1 is officially released and works as well as G+ (but obviously faster), G+ leads the way in wireless networking.
