wireless keeps hanging

My wireless connection on my laptop will hang off and on. Sometimes it goes fast and then sometimes it just hangs then all of a sudden it will 'catch up'. I have a wireless G card connected and it hangs with it in or without use. I use a wireless G Belkin router if that matters. I have tried a new cable modem and still the same. I also tried changing the encryption settings but that too has proven to be no help. This happens close to the wireless modem so I know it's not an issue of being too far away. I have a Toshiba Satellite and am running windows XP. If any of you have suggestions I am open to hearing anything.

Well yeah it does. But this is not just a brief wait. Sometimes it's for 30 seconds to a minute and it happens way more than it should. Also, it NEVER happens if I am using a free wi fi connection, only here at home.

If it only happens at home it probably has something to do with your router. You mentioned you tried a different modem, have you tested with a different router as well? Also make sure your wireless card is updated with the latest drivers.

I used to have another router and I experienced the same thing. When I bought the new one I thought this issue would stop but it hasn't. I checked Belkin's website but there are no drivers for my wireless card.

Didn't it come with a driver disk?

The router did come with a disk. Should I just reinstall everything and if so will it look for updates?

Well guy: my Sony Vaio with Xp is in the same boat a matter of fact it won't connect via wireless at all now,and i know why, the cause is, after i opened the XP windows upgraide auto solftware installations,it has something to do with the windows fire wall and security auto upgraides,it won't do it if i install xp pack 2 manually instead of opening the auto updates,it won't do it if i stick with xp 1 that came with the vaio,
