wireless keyboard issue

hoping someone can help out here.

Ive got a wireless keyboard/mouse combo that connects through USB. The keyboard seems like it's hypersensitive. it will work in one location only, and if the keyboard is lifted from that location, even a little, the keys no longer function. In it's "sweet spot" it works just as it should.

This used to not be a problem. We did do some rearranging around the living room, and I set it up again, worked fine in that one spot. Woke up this morning and it no longer works there. This is a mystery. Normal, wired keyboards in all ports work just fine.

I tried varying USB ports, and all product the same result. I tried moving the little receiver in different positions, also to no effect. It almost seems like there's some kind of interference or something.

Anything obvious that I'm missing?

You are probably correct!! either that or it's a weak signal from the Reciever to the keyboard due to low batteries.

Do you have any other wireless equipment nearby?

  • cordless phone
  • router
I've only known devices working at 2.4Ghz such as those above to interfere with each other but you never know !!

How far from the keyboard is the reciever? because even being too close can sometime cause issues in wireless equipment.

Have you reset the buttons on both the keyboard and reciever to communicate with each other again?

Another wireless mouse, yes. Both the same manufacturer.

I had a wireless mouse already, wanted a wireless keyboard, and got another wireless mouse with it (but Id rather use my older mouse anyhow, its better). The keyboard/mouse combo uses the same usb receiver. The old mouse has it's own receiver. That mouse has no issues either, works like a dream. Come to think of it, the other mouse we keep around as a "spare", it works fine from the keyboard receiver. Seems like just the keyboard is wacky.

Oh, and I checked the batteries too. They are fine. Thought i'd mention it, people forget sometimes.

so if you are within range of the reciever and you have pressed the buttons on the two parts to let them communicate and the batteries are fine, then I would maybe consider exchanging it for another one as it "may" be faulty.

can you try it on a different PC somewhere else and see if you get same issues?

get home to check, and lo the keyboard is working just fine in its old position. I can even move it around a bit. strange.

wish I knew what was causing it. theres no way to isolate a problem when its behaving so erratically.
