I just bought an usb wireless G card, works pretty well, except for one problem...

I curently use fios, and have a 54mpbs router downstairs. I get great signal up here, but every few minutes, the internet just stops working for about 5 seconds. THe signal strenght and all doesn't budge, but in online games like css, i freeze and can't move. IT'S VERY ANNOYING. what's going on?? Anyone help?

Make sure the channel isnt busying in the air, i.e the space between the wireless adapter and the router hasnt got any microwaves, for example, directly between them.

If there is nothing to interfer with the signal, maybe change the channel the router is on, this will most likely solve your problem.

If not, what is the percentage single strength coming from your wireless adapter? If its very low, try re-positioning it so there isnt many walls in the way. This does help.. seriously. ;]

hmm, It shouldn't have any microwaves between them, since my computer is sitting directly on top of the router, just 2 floors up. I'll try to change the channel soon. Also, the strenght of the signal is usually around 70%.

Strange thing is, my old 11mpbs card didnt have this trouble...

That could be because 802.11b uses the 2.4Ghz frequency, and the 802.11g uses the 5Ghz frequency.

Do you have a wireless phone?....What frequency is it? and what fruqecny is your router? Alot of people have this problem and dont relise it :P

hmm, I have a cordless phone on my desk, cellphone in my pocket, cordless phone a few rooms over, cordless phone a floor down, but no radios.

Back to what omega said a while ago, the 54mbps card runs at 5ghz? I always thought they also ran at 2.4..

What freqecny is your phones on? It wont mtter unless your wireless phones are on the same frequency. If they are on the same frquecy, then what you want to do is buy new cordless phoens or buy a new wireless router and reciver either of them on a different frequcent then the other. They come is 800mhz 2.4ghz and now 5ghz.
