Alright, I have never been good with networking (yes, I get made fun of at LAN parties). For some reason, I can never get a LAN connection setup between two computers. Right now, I have cable internet from Comcast, I have the box that the cable connects in to (the name escapes me) and a wireless, D-link router. Would it be possible to do file sharing between my computer (ethernet connected) and my brothers (wireless connected)?

Yes it would, it's very simple to setup. First off, what OS are you running (XP, Vista, etc)?

You need to be on the same subnet and part of the same workgroup and have file sharing enabled. That should do the trick and a lot of times it is something that simple that is over looked.

Otherwise, give us a more detailed list of your configuration to better assess your problem.

As for the OS, I am running XP. We are on the same workgroup, I am not certain what a "subnet" is, and I am not exactly sure how to enable file sharing. What else would you like to know in regards to configuration?

right click on the folder you want to share, and go to properties then select the sharing tab.

Alright, I shared a folder AND put it in the My Shared Files on one computer, put both computers on the same work group. I clicked View Workgroup Computers and I received the following error:

"MSHOME is not accessible you might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have permissions.

The list of servers for this workgroup is not available."

You need to restart after changing the work group. Check the IP address's of both of your computers. Also go into your router configuration and what are the IP ranges and the subnet address? However by default for a small network you should be in the same IP range and subnet.
