Well I just ordered some new parts:
- Modem:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16825112005
- Wireless Router:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833127243
This is replacing some 2Wire two in one junk that I've wanted to get rid of for awhile.
Well the parts came today and I just did a basic setup to get the internet back up. After that I wanted to see what the range of Draft N was like, so I went over to a part of my house where 802.11G ended. I test it out and I get the same signal strength as before.
I only have one device in my house right now that supports N, that is my IBM T61, using an "Intel WiFi Link 4965AGN" card running driver 11.1.1.11
So I check my wireless card under device manager and it says that "802.11n Mode" is enabled. I then try a little trouble shooting and set the router to transmit 5GHz only, so only A & N should be transmitting. I get the same distance as I did before. I then limit it to just A and then just N, and both get the same distance as well, which I don't understand at all.
Also, I'm not next to any devices transmitting a signal that would interfere. Even if I was wouldn't switching it to 5GHz remedy that?
So that is just a brief over view of what is happening. I'm hoping I'm missing something stupid as wireless networking is far from my strong point.
Thanks for all the help in advance, if you need any more info feel free to ask.
