Wireless N Question

Do wireless n routers have backward compatibility with wireless g receivers? My current g router is crap and i'm looking to upgrade. Is it worth buying a new n router if all my receivers are g? Suggestions?

Most all computers/routers today are B/G/N compatible. Any computer that's just G should work fine with an N router and vice versa. I've not had much experience with them so I'm not sure if it's really worth the upgrade, but unless you do much more than surf the web, I'd say just stick with G. Maybe get yourself a nice G router than can run DD-WRT.

The problem that I'm having is i'm trying to hook up my xbox to play online. The problem is that I only get 1/5 bars even though my router is a floor below my xbox. Surfing the web is has good speed it's just the wireless to my xbox sucks.

I don't know much about the wireless Xbox adapter, but I'd wonder if it's receiving a fair bit of interference from your surrounding electronics. Plus depending on the location, even one room (above, below, wherever) can cause a fair bit of signal loss. If possible, maybe try moving the xbox or using a USB extension and place the NIC in a more open area. It certainly shouldn't make things worse :P

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Thanks for the input. Still getting a new router tomorow tho. Most likely will try to place it on top of the desk instead of it being under the desk surrounded by my modem and a pound of power cords :P.
