Wireless network adapter with a cable modem?

Hello,
I own a desktop computer that i hooked up to my motorola SURFboard cable modem. I recently purchased a dell inspiron laptop with wireless capabilities. If I set up a wireless network with my laptop and purchase a wireless network adapter for my desktop, can my laptop access the internet through the adapter? The reason I ask this is because I don't want to purchase an expensive wireless router or another modem, and I can't connect via ethernet cables because they're too short.
Many thanks,
Staci

I think you should just buy a longer Ethernet cable.

I am not 100% sure but i don't think you can connect your laptop to your PC to connect to the web using a wireless adapter, if i find a link about it on the net ill give u link to the site to confirm.

I have tried something similar to what you described and it didn't work.

I never done a set-up like that, but try to share the connection of your wired network interface card to the wireless network interface card. Use the wizard to follow on how to share the connection to the wireless NIC. Then try connect the two computer and set-up the internet on your laptop. I think you need some proxy software for your desktop.
