Wireless network problem

Hi fellas, I've got a desktop, a netgear router and a laptop.
My laptop accesses the internet via the router while it is connected to the mains power supply without a problem. However, when I try and connect to the internet when the laptop is only on battery power, it doesn't do so - even though the battery is fully charged.
I want to take my laptop on holiday to Spain this summer and hopefully use it in wi-fi free hotels and bars, but I will not be able to if I cannot get connected using battery power.

My laptop is - ACER ASpire 1642ZWLMi
1.7GHz 400MHz FSB
1 GB DDR2 RAM
802.1 wireless LAN
Does anyone out there know why my laptop will not access the internet when only on battery power?
I'm fairly new to computers, so any advice will be great.

I assume you are connecting wirelessly?
And what Operating System are you using? (Windows XP, Vista, 7 etc...)

Laptops have "Power Saving" modes for when they are unplugged. This is probably what is causing your problem, the wireless is being turned off when it is unplugged.

You should have a button or a switch on the laptop somewhere that will turn the wireless on/off. Ensure that is on when the laptop is unplugged.

If that doesn't solve your problem if you can state your Operating System we can check your power saving settings.

My wireless Network Problem

Thanks a lot. You were right. I found the way to turn the wireless on and so I'm very pleased . Incidentally, I've got Windows XP.
Thanks for your help.
