Wireless Network speed issue

Hi all

Ive just moved to a new property and i have now got fiber optics running at 60meg, i have a mac-book pro which i use when I'm down stairs in front of the telly mostly and a PC when I'm playing games etc (the one in my signature) both are using the wireless to connect, if i do a speed test on my mac it shows 62meg when i right next to the router or if I'm upstairs next to my PC but if i do a test on my PC it shows around 8 to 15 meg, now would this have something to do with the wireless card i have in my PC?
the router we are using is the one given to us by virgin which is a super hub made by net-gear.

Hope you can help :)

Wireless will always be slower than a wired connection. And since you are upstairs from the router you have to consider distance and obstacles between you and the router. You could also have electronic interference causing the slow speed with the wireless.

Are you using wireless G? If so then even the max theoretical speed would be too slow for a 60mbps internet connection.

N can theoretically handle it, but you would need to get high quality devices both sending and receiving the signal (the ISPs device won't cut it). Even still wired is the way to go here if you want to take FULL advantage of the speed.

Looking in to it a little more i think it is my wireless network card on my pc is fairly old not sure what type it is (G or N) as when i test my macbook Pro in the same location that is 60mb.

as my mac works fine on wireless and i get get my max speed with it i will most limey hardwire my PC in to my router, luckily i use duct grade Network cable at work so il run it on the outside wall next to the fibre cable :)

Thank you all for your Responses
