wireless or usb mouse or keyboard not working

I am trying to fix my mates computer and I have plugged in my usb mouse and keyboard because he doesnt have the old fittings on his machine. I can get the keyboard working during the boot phase but when it gets to the welcome to windows to select a user, the usb mouse and keyboard don't work, nor do my wireless mouse and keyboard.

Any help would be great. Thanks

Is it case USB slots or motherboard USB slots that you are trying to use? If it is case then there is every possibility the wires have come loose inside, atleast for the mouse, if the keyboard is working at boot and not in the OS that would put that idea out
