I think mine is going bad.. i lost alot of speed here recently with my internet.

This is the one that i have right now:
ASUS PCE-N10 Wireless Adapter IEEE 802.11b/g/n PCI Express Up to 150Mbps Wireless Data Rates WPA2

I tried removing it from the system and then putting it back in, and it got good connection for a minute and then dropped down to 1.32mbps lol. appauling.

so im wanting to order a new one.

$50 is my limit, Any recommendations? I stay loyal to newegg. Spent over 3 grand there so far, So if you could stick to that it would be great.

Greatly appreciated..

Jack

Before you look at spending money I would want to be 100% sure that one is faulty.

1. Do you have any other wireless devices on your network? ie other laptops, smartphones, tablets etc. Are any of those experiencing problems?
2. Did the problem happen all of a sudden? How far are you from your wireless access point?
3. Do a wireless scan, are there any new wireless networks that have shown up? It is possible if a neighbour has installed a new wireless network on the same channel as yours you could be getting interference (Especially if you are closer to their access point than your own). If this is the case you could try changing to another wireless channel and this may solve the problem.

----Do you have any other wireless devices on your network? ie other laptops, smartphones, tablets etc. Are any of those experiencing problems?
I have 3 other laptops, an iphone, a samsung galaxy s3, and a samsung tablet, and they all have perfect signal.

----Did the problem happen all of a sudden?
Yes.

----How far are you from your wireless access point?
next room, maybe 12 feet, one dry wall.

----Do a wireless scan, are there any new wireless networks that have shown up?
no, same ones as always

Thankyou for the response, i hope those answers are sufficient.

Ok. The problem appears to lie with that machine then. The question now is if the problem is hardware or software.

I would do the following, not sure if you want to go to this sort of effort though.

Pull down the latest copy of a free linux ie ubuntu. Burn it to a disc and boot your machine from it. When you get to the menu choose the boot from live cd option(wording may be something like try ubuntu before install or similar). Once booted connect to your wireless network and browse the web for a while. If you don't experience any dropouts etc then the hardware is fine and the problem lies with your windows installation.

Ok i just moved my pc into my router room and hooked up using ethernet. perfect connection, then i unplugged my ethernet and went back to wireless and it dropped out every couple seconds again, im betting on hardware. what do you think?

the ethernet cable went into the motherboard plugin, the wireless card does have an ethernet input/output

Yeah it does sound like it could be a hardware issue.

One last quick thing to check though, as it happened all of a sudden. Go to device manager, network adaptors and properties on that wireless card. Go to the drivers tab. See if the Roll Back Driver option is greyed out or not. If it is selectable click on it and go through the process of reverting to the older network driver. There is a possibility a windows update has updated the network driver and the new one doesn't work. Forgot to mention, if you do roll-back the driver reboot the machine afterwards and check it then.

If all that doesn't work then replace the card.

so, back to the original question, Any recommendations on cards under $50 anyone?

EDIT? P.s. Thankyou for the help in diagnosing that cjmarsh

I'm really stuck on this stuff guy's. Not sure about that wireless card. I bought the first one based on the opinion's of people on this forum. I don't know whats the difference between them or why one or another is better. i know i obviously want one that can handle more MBPS of download/upload speed. But thats about it.
