Wireless problems

My Wife's laptop sits in our dining room, and connects to our network wirelessly. My router is in the basement (immediately beneath the dining room.) From time to time the laptop simply stops seeing the network, sometimes rebooting the computer helps, and sometimes not.

I have a wireless media bridge also in the dining room, and it is streaming music over the wireless network with no problems, so the router seems to be fine.

Any ideas on why the laptop keeps dropping off the network?

my mum's wireless would do this constantly, we neve could find a way too fix it.

It turns out that after a many painful phone call to Advent it was a hardware issue.

Fist off make sure you have the most up to date drivers, and if that doesnt work, think about phoning and getting your laptop's internal Wireless card looked at.

does it give you any compatability problems or maybe it could be the router location basement damp musty isnt really good for computer equipment give it a try but i have the same problem some times but mine is more a compatability vista vs. linksys wireless card made for xp so ya do what ya can

also what kind of router is it

Wow do I feel silly. The laptop has a slide switch on the front that turns the wireless card on or off. With the switch on, everything works as it should. As I mentioned in the original post, the laptop is in the dining room, and the desk it is on puts the front of the laptop right at my 3 year old's eye level, I think I see a connection there.

Thanks for the replies.
